Kendall Mountain Run 11K
The Kendall Mountain Run 11K takes place each July in the historic mining town of Silverton, Colorado, starting at 9,318 feet and climbing to 10,840 feet. This out-and-back course follows jeep roads for about 6.8 miles, gaining roughly 1,600 feet of elevation to the turnaround at Deer Park before descending back to Memorial Park. The route stays on wide jeep roads the entire way, making for steady but manageable climbing without technical terrain. At this altitude, the thin air will be noticeable from the start, and the exposure means weather can change quickly in the high country. Runners will see expansive views of the San Juan Mountains as they climb, with the landscape opening up as they gain elevation above the valley floor. This race suits runners comfortable with sustained climbing at altitude who don't mind starting early to beat afternoon storms. The jeep road surface keeps things straightforward, but the elevation and mountain weather require respect. Those looking for technical trail running might find it less engaging, but anyone drawn to high-altitude mountain challenges will appreciate the setting and the steady, honest climb.
