Winter Park 10K 2026
The Winter Park 10K in August offers 6 miles of high-altitude trail running through Colorado's alpine terrain. Starting at 8,700 feet and climbing to 9,500 feet, the course is roughly 85% singletrack with 920 feet of climbing and descent. One aid station at the halfway point breaks up what's essentially a mountain out-and-back or loop format. Expect challenging but runnable terrain winding through evergreen and aspen forest, with the thin air at altitude adding an extra dimension to the climbs. The course moves between shaded woodland sections and more open terrain as you gain elevation toward the high point. Summer weather in Winter Park can be unpredictable—temperatures might range from the high 30s to low 70s, and afternoon thunderstorms are always possible in the Colorado Rockies. This works well for runners comfortable with technical singletrack and altitude, especially those who don't mind a shorter distance with concentrated climbing. If you're not used to running above 8,500 feet, the elevation will be noticeable from the start. Runners looking for a longer mountain experience might consider the 21K or 50K options that share the same weekend.
