Rock Hawk 10K
The Rock Hawk 10K takes runners on a 6.2-mile journey through Castle Rock's Miller Park and Ridgeline trail systems in late August. The course features 744 feet of climbing with a maximum elevation around 6,600 feet, giving runners a taste of Colorado's Front Range terrain without overwhelming technicality. The route follows rolling trails that move between different sections of the trail network, hitting the Crossover aid station twice as runners loop through the system. While the trails aren't overly technical, they offer enough variety to keep things interesting, with views opening up along the ridgeline sections. The moderate elevation and summer timing mean runners should expect some exposure and plan for warm conditions, though the 7:30 AM start helps beat the heat. This works well for runners looking for a solid trail workout without committing to a longer distance. The 3.5-hour time limit is generous for the distance, making it accessible to newer trail runners while still providing a decent challenge for those training for longer summer events. Runners who enjoy rolling terrain with some climbing but prefer routes that aren't highly technical will find this a good fit.
