Pikes Peak Ultra 20K
The Pikes Peak Ultra 20K covers 12.4 miles through Colorado Springs' signature crushed granite trail system, starting from Bear Creek Regional Park in late July. With 2,513 feet of climbing and the same amount of descent, the course winds up High Drive into Cheyenne Canon, crossing the Seven Bridges Trail before reaching its high point around 7,877 feet. Runners traverse a mix of well-maintained trails and sections of the Ring the Peak Trail system, moving through pine forests and more exposed terrain with views toward Pikes Peak. The crushed granite surface provides solid footing, though the steady climbing demands respect at altitude. Aid stations at High Drive and Cheyenne Canon keep runners supplied, though this is a cupless event requiring your own reusable cup. This race suits runners comfortable with sustained climbing at elevation who want a solid introduction to Colorado's Front Range trails without committing to the longer, more demanding distances. The 7 a.m. start helps beat summer heat, but runners should still prepare for variable mountain weather and the effects of altitude above 6,000 feet.
