Pikes Peak Ultra 50K
The Pikes Peak Ultra 50K takes runners through 31 miles of Colorado Springs' signature crushed granite trails, starting at Bear Creek Regional Park in late July. With over 8,000 feet of elevation gain, the course climbs from around 6,200 feet to nearly 11,500 feet at Mt. Rosa's summit before returning to the start. The route winds through Cheyenne Canon and follows portions of the Ring the Peak Trail, offering consistent views of Pikes Peak when you have time to look up from the climbing. Much of the ascent happens on the Seven Bridges Trail and Pipeline Trail, with terrain that's more grinding than technical. At altitude and in mid-summer heat, shade can be limited on exposed sections, though the canon portions provide some relief. Runners comfortable with sustained climbing and altitude will find their rhythm here, especially those who don't mind working hard in potentially warm conditions. The crushed granite surface is forgiving on the legs, but the elevation gain is relentless—this isn't a course for runners looking to cruise. The Mt. Rosa summit adds both challenge and payoff for those willing to earn the views.
