Grand Mesa Ultras 30K
The Grand Mesa Ultras 30K covers nearly 19 miles on Colorado's Grand Mesa in late July, following a counter-clockwise loop on the Crag Crest trail. With a 6.5-hour cutoff, this isn't a technical sufferfest but rather a steady challenge at around 10,000 feet of elevation. The course runs along one of Colorado's signature high-country trails, where runners move through dense aspen and spruce forests before emerging onto the mesa's distinctive rim. Much of the route follows the actual crest, offering wide views across western Colorado's plateau country. The loop format means you'll pass through familiar terrain twice, with aid stations positioned at strategic points including the start/finish at Mesa Top. Runners comfortable with sustained effort at altitude will appreciate this race, though the July timing means afternoon thunderstorms are always possible on the exposed sections. The 10,000-foot elevation and mountain weather make this better suited for those who don't mind cooler temperatures and can handle the thinner air—flatlanders might find the altitude more challenging than the terrain itself.
