Barr Lake 30K
The Barr Lake 30K in Brighton, Colorado runs two loops around a scenic state park lake in mid-June. This is about as flat as trail running gets, with just 380 feet of total climbing spread across 18.2 miles of entirely dirt trail. The course stays close to the water throughout, offering continuous lake views and glimpses of Colorado's Front Range mountains. You'll pass through the start/finish area between loops, with aid stations at Lark's Lounge and O'Brian's Oasis positioned roughly every 3 miles. The terrain is non-technical and fast, making it popular with runners chasing PRs or testing fitness without battling significant elevation. Runners who prefer speed-focused efforts and don't mind repetitive scenery will find this appealing. The double-loop format means you'll see the same sights twice, but the flat profile and reliable footing make it ideal for those wanting to focus on pacing and endurance rather than navigation or technical terrain. With an 8+ hour cutoff, there's plenty of time for a wide range of finishing goals.
