Barr Lake 5K
The Barr Lake 5K in Brighton, Colorado is an out-and-back trail run held in mid-June. This course covers just over 3 miles on 100% dirt trails with minimal elevation gain—only about 40 feet total—making it one of the flattest trail options you'll find. Starting from the Nature Center at Barr Lake State Park, runners head out on well-maintained dirt paths that offer continuous views of the lake and Colorado's Front Range mountains. The route stays close to the water for most of the distance, providing a scenic backdrop without any significant climbs or technical terrain. June temperatures can warm up quickly, though the early morning 8 AM start helps beat the heat. This race works well for runners looking to test their trail legs without committing to major elevation or distance, or road runners curious about dirt surfaces. The flat profile and short distance make it approachable for newer trail runners, while the dirt footing and lake setting provide a different feel from typical road 5Ks.
