Royal Gorge Groove 20K
The Royal Gorge Groove 20K is a 13-mile trail run held in late April near Cañon City, Colorado. The course follows scenic trails along the rim of the Royal Gorge, offering views 900 feet above the Arkansas River, with roughly 1,330 feet of total climbing and a maximum elevation around 6,850 feet. Runners start at the Royal Gorge Ranch & Resort and head out through varied terrain that includes both forested sections and exposed ridgeline running. The route passes three aid stations—Dream Weaver Water Drop at 2.3 miles, Canyon Rim Aid at 5.8 miles, then returns to the ranch for the finish. April weather in Colorado can be unpredictable, with cool temperatures likely and the possibility of snow, so runners should check conditions and be prepared for changing weather. This race suits runners comfortable with moderate climbing and variable spring mountain conditions. Those who enjoy rim running with expansive views and don't mind potentially cool or unsettled weather will find plenty to like here. The 10.5-hour cutoff provides ample time for most trail runners to complete the distance comfortably.
