Royal Gorge Groove 30K
The Royal Gorge Groove 30K runs 18.2 miles through the canyon country near Cañon City, Colorado in late April. The course follows a point-to-point route with around 2,100 feet of climbing, reaching a maximum elevation of 7,121 feet above the Arkansas River. Starting from Royal Gorge Ranch, the route heads out through varied terrain before reaching the Canyon Rim Aid station at mile 11, where runners get views down into the Royal Gorge itself. The final 7.2 miles return to the ranch through rolling terrain. Aid stations are spaced every 4-5 miles, making hydration and fueling straightforward. April weather in this part of Colorado tends to be cool and can be unpredictable — snow is rare but possible, so check conditions before race day. This race suits runners comfortable with moderate climbing spread across a longer distance. The 10 hour 45 minute cutoff gives plenty of time for most trail runners, but those looking for steep technical terrain might find the course more rolling than challenging. Runners who enjoy canyon scenery and don't mind potentially cool conditions will likely have a good time here.
